the hardest thing (a poem about grief)

by admin June 4, 2015
written by admin June 4, 2015

it is the hardest thing
to watch someone you love in destruction mode
denying their inner anguish
pasting band-aids on bleeding gashes
that spread and spread their darkness
until they’re drowning in a pool of their
own pain
knowing that you’d give anything to help them
get better
and whole
and healed
knowing there’s so much you’d like
to say
or do
or be
on their behalf
knowing that you cannot pull them out of the
mire on your own
because you do not have the power
you do not have the strength
you do not have the capability
only they do
only they can find the courage in themselves
only they can make the choices to stop
the bloodbath
to quench the wounds that are pulling them under
as much support you give
as much as you try to dig your
feet into the solid ground
at the edge
and hold them up on life support
if you aren’t careful
they will drag you under too
and you will suffocate in the quagmire
of brokenness
because you do not have the power
you do not have the strength
you do not have the capability
only they do
and that is the hardest thing
about watching
someone you love in destruction mode
