Why do people have to die? (A poem about grief)

by admin June 10, 2015
written by admin June 10, 2015

Why do people have to die
and leave an unstoppable leak
that is never quite remedied
and your heart bleeds
first loudly like a rushing river
and then over time
it’s a slow stream or a trickle
But it never quite stops
because losing someone
who is irreplaceable in one’s heart
is never, ever quite repaired
no matter how much time passes
or how many ways you try
to quench the unquenchable leak
But you learn somehow to live with
the fact that your heart will always hurt
and that the leak will always be there
because love and loss are
damagingly beautiful.
