September is my month of talking about Bodily Healing. This is part of my Year of Healing, in which I tackle different topics of healing each month. During September, I will touch on physical and sexual healing, accepting ourselves no matter who we are.
Today, I want to share a very special podcast with you all. In this podcast, I speak with Abby Mortenson, a yoga teacher living in upstate New York, about yoga, grief, trauma, self image/body image issues, and healing. Abby Mortensen is a 200-RYT yoga teacher and has her master’s degree in social work. She has done studies on how trauma affects the body, worked in jails with youth to help them heal, and lead yoga retreats to help people deal with grief.
In this podcast, Abby shares her personal story of loss, grief, and heartache. She shares insight into the healing journey of using yoga to deal with hard issues, as well as embracing one’s body and learning to accept oneself.
While Abby is a yoga teacher, I really want to be clear that anyone can benefit from listening to this podcast in order to help themselves think through how they can better learn to take care of their bodies. You do not have to enjoy yoga or want to do yoga to listen in on our conversation. Abby and I simply hope you can take away principles for yourself whether or not you want to do yoga. There are many forms of exercise or intentional breathing methods you could incorporate into your life.
